Ted D. Louis-Jacques is the founder of Malden Rising Leaders Inc. (MRL) which is a nonprofit organization whose focus is youth leadership and development through scholarship support and mentoring. Its mission is to support the up-incoming generation of Malden’s young leaders to organize and engage, by advocating on behalf of families, to advance their community’s development. Due to Ted’s passion for education and equity, Malden Rising Leaders Inc. provides yearly scholarships to Malden High School graduating seniors to further their studies in the fields of education and/or public service. As the President of the Board of Directors, Ted oversees ambitious strategic planning initiatives to position MRL as an anchor for community knowledge and public service that enhances academic offerings through its programs and increases the community’s capacity to meet the demand for a well-educated workforce.
Ted currently works for the Doctor of Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). In his current role, he drives the matching process and provides field support for the residency component of the program.
Furthermore, Ted is a U.S. Army Veteran. Currently, Ted is Corporal of the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Sergeant Louis-Jacques enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard on July 2014 as an 88 M Motor Transport Operator. He attended basic training and led recruit training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Subsequently, Sergeant Louis-Jacques served a Recruiting and Retention Specialist for the U.S. Army/Massachusetts Army National Guard in the Greater Boston Area. He was subsequently deployed in the Middle East with the 1060th Transportation Company in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He returned home on September 2016.
Prior to enlisting in the Army, Ted was a member of Mayor Gary J. Christenson’s cabinet in Malden, Ma. Ted served in the Mayor’s Office as the Constituent Services Representative for the City of Malden. He acted as lead liaison between the youth of the city and the Haitian American community. Ted was integral in establishing the Mayor’s Internship Program and the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program, which today continues to hire over 250 youths each summer. Ted also served on the Board of Directors of the Malden Teen Enrichment Center (MTEC) then later led and supported the efforts of the teen center as the Youth Activities Leader.
Ted was a fellow at the Howard Rye Institute (HRI) through Unity of Minority Neighborhood (UMN). The fellowship is a nine-month intensive training initiative focused on developing leaders of African descent. HRI Fellows learn the importance of history and how it relates to issues communities face today; they develop an understanding of institution’s strategic roles and inner workings; as well as the political and economic underpinnings that shape issues and systematically impact our community. In developing the next generation of civic and political leaders, HRI relies on a network of experts, prominent leaders from universities, unions, government, business and nonprofits as trainers, speakers, and mentors.
In addition, Ted serves on Mayor Christenson’s Racial and Harmony Task Force where he is an active member on the Absence of Racial Tension and Discrimination subcommittee. Ted is also a newly elected Secretary of the Malden Community Preservation Committee. Ted is a member of the Malden Democratic City Committee (MDCC). For the last seven years, Ted has volunteered as assistant coach for the Malden High School boys’ basketball team and as head coach for the Malden Neighborhood Basketball League (MNBL).
Ted D. Louis-Jacques holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice from Mount Ida College where he served as President for the Class of 2011, and a Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security and Emergency Management (magna cum laude) from Central Texas College. Ted is fluent in both French and Haitian Creole. Ted plans to obtain a law degree and is a proud father to his son Jeremiah D. Louis-Jacques. Ted currently resides in Malden where he has lived with his family for the past 19 years.
