The Neal Anderson Public Service Scholarship

Purpose:

The purpose of the Neal Anderson Public Service Scholarship is to empower high school students in building lasting relationships within their respective career field.


Mission:

Receiving a Neal Anderson Public Service Scholarship would help provide highly motivated and gifted young students with the necessary support to advance and excel in their future endeavors.


Vision:

The vision of the Neal Anderson Public Service Scholarship is to support high school students who are committed to serving the Malden community in pursuing their goals with the promise of returning to Malden to contribute to the city’s future growth and development, to encourage civic engagement and service to the Malden community.


Description:

The Neal Anderson Public Service Scholarship honors high school students in Malden who are dedicated to serving the Malden community. Each year, a student will receive the award in the amount of $1,000 to help him/her towards his/her higher education that they can utilize towards future developments within the Malden community.


Eligibility:

  • Must be a graduating high school student in Malden (Malden High School, Malden Catholic or Mystic Valley Regional Charter School) and a resident of Malden, MA
  • Must have volunteered no less than 50 hours of community service in Malden
  • Must be a U.S citizen/permanent resident
  • Must plan to attend college (2 year or 4 year) or technical school
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher


Requirement:

  • Complete the scholarship application by Sunday, December 2, 2018 by 11:59 p.m.
  • Two letters of recommendation (one from the Malden community and one from school personnel)
  • Short statement describing your future goals
  • 500 word essay
  • Finalists will have an in-person interview

Scholarship will be presented at the North Shore Black Women’s Association MLK luncheon on Saturday, January 19, 2019.
